The Red Bomb

I wonder whether is it about the trend or is it just the people I happen to know are weird?

My mother receives another red "bomb" again!

Here is the story.

My family stays in Klang while my maternal relatives stay in Penang. Since we live here, we missed out a lot of special occasions like fathers' day, mothers' day, my grandparent's birthday and e.t.c. I only have the chance to visit my grandparents during semester break and when my parents have a break from their work. My grandparents live alone and their life expense depend solely on their filial daughters.

You see... my grandma used to have this friend. Now, the friend's daughter's son is going to get married. Perhaps he needs extra money to subsidise his own wedding, his mother(the friend's daughter. Grandma's friend had passed away.) had decided to give 3 wedding invitations to her mother's old friend (my grandma), one for my grandparents, one for my mother's sister and another one for my mother. For chinese, when you receive a wedding invitation, it is customary for you to give them red packet(money!) whether you can make it or not. Okay, although it is not a crime to get married and want to share the good news with your CLOSED ones, but in this case, I don't understand why they've to give THREE wedding invitations to the same family? It is not as if my mother would take a day off from her work and attend the son's wedding in Penang? My mother doesn't even know their names! These people are just taking advantage on my grandma's kindness! My grandma isn't the type of person who knows to reject at the right time. She ends up giving them a big red packet although it means she has to restrict her expense for this month!

It makes me wonder how could some people be that "thick skin" huh?
